How to Use Essential Oils

Essential oils are concentrated oils taken from plants. They are called “essential” because they are the essence of the plant. They are named for the source from which they come. For example, Mint essential oil comes from Mint leaves. There are so many beneficial uses for essential oils. You can use them to relieve stress, for massages, sprays and even their healing aromatherapy effects.  Essential oils are gaining popularity for being a natural source to treat minor symptoms and ailments. Here is how you can use essential oils. Read on for more information.

Step 1

You want to ensure that you are not allergic or sensitive to the essential oils you want to use. So, place a small dab of the diluted essential oil onto the crease of your elbow. Wait for 24 hours to see you if you have any reaction to the oil. If you do it will be visible in the same location you dabbed the oil on.

Step 2

Consider using essential oils when you take a relaxing bath. Simply add 3-8 drops of the essential oil of choice into running water. Get in the water and soak in the tub for about 10 minutes. If you feel any irritation after you in, get out of the water immediately.

Step 3

Essential oils can be used for minor symptoms and pains. If you are suffering from congestion Eucalyptus essential oil may help remedy the discomfort. If you feel you’re more stressed than usual, then try Sandalwood or even Peppermint essential oil. Add about 4 drops of the oil into a boil of very hot water. You want it to almost be boiling. Use a towel to make a covering and breathe in the oil infused steam to help take away any symptoms you may feel.

Step 4

Are your feet tired and sore? Bathe them in a container with 5-7 drops of essential oil and about 1 quart of warm water. Allow your feet to soak for approximately ten minutes. A great suggestion for tired feet is mint, juniper or even lemon essential oils.

Step 5

You can use essential oils as air freshener as well. Simple fill a bottle with a spray nozzle with water and add about 20 drops of oil. You can spray dried flowers with the mix so they retain the smell.

Step 6

You can add one drop of essential oil onto a hot light bulb. This isn’t safe for halogen lights.

Step 7

Use 10 drops of diluted oil (mixed with 1 oz. of carried oil) for a massage. Extra virgin olive is nice carrier oil. You can use vitamin e to help with overall skin health.
