How to Prevent Age Spots

Age spots are darks spots that appear on the skin as a person gets older. One cause of age spots is overexposure to the sun, and they are sometimes also called sun spots or freckles. To prevent these dark spots you must avoid sun exposure because they reappear again once you are exposed. There are different kinds of method to remove these spots. If you are attuned with your treatments, you are sure to see improvements shortly.

  • Use a sunscreen daily. Choose a sunscreen that has both UVA and UVB protection. If you stay in the sun for a long period of time, reapply sunscreen to areas of your skin that are exposed. It is also necessary to use sunscreen even on a cloudy day. Sun rays can penetrate through the clouds and can cause the same harmful effect.

    • Use bleaching cream and apply it to your age spots. These creams can easily be purchased over the counter at health and beauty stores. These creams will lighten your age spots so they can blend in easily with the surrounding skin tone.
    • Go to a certified dermatologist and ask about a prescription cream. These prescription bleaching creams have higher concentrations of bleach and therefore can whiten more intensely. But be careful when using them: since they are higher in concentration, your skin may not be compatible with these creams. Apply a small amount first on your skin before you try a full application. This will determine your skin’s reaction.
    • Use products that contain hydroxyl acid, a chemical used for skin regeneration. This will enable production of a new layer of skin to replace your damaged skin. Choose a line of products that contain this chemical so as to speed up the process of regeneration. Bear in mind that upon using this chemical, your skin becomes sensitive to the sun. Therefore, it is important to be sure that you practice proper sun protection.
    • Consider microdermabrasion therapy. This is a clinical treatment that aims to buff away your dead skin cells to reveal a new layer of skin. This process includes a small device that sort of resembles a sandblaster. Once your skin is healed, age spots will appear lighter. This is an effective treatment and procedure you can undergo for fast and best results.
    • Look into laser treatments. A dermatologist will use a laser to lighten your age spots. The light on the laser will break pigmentation caused by age spots to effectively remove them. This treatment also encourages collagen formation. As a result, your skin will appear firm and more evenly toned. These types of treatment need to be done regularly to gain maximum results.

              Tips and Warning

              • Avoid going out in the sun without sunscreen. You must reapply sunscreen every now and then for full skin protection.
