How to Have a Happy Life

Happiness is the ability of a person to see things always like a cloud with a silver lining. Whatever situation you are in, a happy person will always see the good things about it. Happiness is more of a process—a continuous decision to be happy. Here are some tips to help you achieve a life full of joy.

Procedure:

  • Smile. You are less likely to develop wrinkles by smiling than frowning. Smiling and laughing produces “happy” hormones. Beside, a smile always brightens up any gloomy day.
  • Sing. Sing in the shower. Sing at the karaoke bar. Sing while out with friends. Singing has the same positive effect as smiling. Do you notice how grumpiness and the feeling of sadness go away when you start to sing? Sing out loud even if you’re out of tune.

  • Surround yourself with positive people. Happiness is contagious, and it is best expressed in a sharing manner. When you are around a bunch or irritated and angry people, you also pick up their emotions—the same as being with positive and happy people. The happier your crowd is, the happier you will also be.
  • Laugh. Watch a funny sitcom. Rent a funny movie. Joke around with your friends. Go through laughter therapy and watch yourself feel a lot better afterwards.
  • Be physically active. Enroll in a dance class. Go to a gym. Jog around the park. These are ways to naturally feel good about yourself. Make it a point to be active in any sport or hobby you like.
  • Hug. Hug you family, your partner or your friends. Being physically touched releases hormones in the body that make you feel good. Hugging a person is one of the ways you can express love and happiness. And it’s free!
  • Be kind. Perform acts of kindness toward people even if they are strangers. Help a lady cross the street. Treat a child to an ice cream cone. Seeing them happy and grateful will all the more make you feel happy, too.
  • Be child-like. Children have the most fun because they know how to enjoy. Play around like a child and engage in children’s games. Goof around and be crazy. These things will refresh you and make you feel like a happy five year old again.
  • Have a grateful heart. Always remember the things you have and be thankful for them. You grow depressed when you start comparing what others have to what you don’t. Make a list of all the things for which you are thankful and read them every day. Make sure to add up a few things every day as well. For example, “Thank you for the good weather,” or “Thank you for the amazing dinner.” Doing so will make you feel even more blessed and happy.
