How to Get Ready for Company in Ten Minutes

Going through the ups and downs of life including the work load and all the billion other household chores and errands, people sometimes feel to just let go and leave the house in its messy state as it is at that moment for once. But, then somebody for instance a guest or group of friends call over telling you that they’ll be over in a few minutes leaving you to wonder how to get rid of all the mess and clutter on such short notice.

To begin with, do not stress out or panic. Think clearly as that is the only way that you will be able to work. First off, use an air freshener to spray around the house in order to get rid of any unwelcome odors. Do not use very heavy scents like that of rose or sandal as all people do not prefer it. Instead go for jasmine or vanilla like light scents.

Next, get hold of a big box or your laundry basket and start putting all the stuff that is lying here and there out of place, cluttering the room. Just cram in all the books, toys, CDs or clothes and put the basket somewhere, where it cannot be seen. The pile can be dealt with and put in its respective place once the guests leave. At the same time keep a damp and dry cleaning cloth in hand and dust of any dirt with the dry one while scrubbing on any stubborn spots with the wet one.

Pay the most attention to the rooms where you expect your visitors to stay like the living room or the powder room. Clean these rooms first, put everything in order and make sure they are dust free. Remove all the things from the coffee table and leave it empty for placing snacks. Put the magazines and CDs in the entertainment corner in order for neatness. Fluff up and straighten the cushions on the sofas as well. As for the powder room, be sure that it is clean and has ample supply of toilet paper and liquid soap and also smells pleasant instead of stinking.

To make the visiting rooms even more comfortable, turn on the heater or the furnace if it is winters or the air-conditioner for summers. The room should be at moderate temperature, neither too warm nor freezing.

After all this, if you don’t have any more time at hand, then simply close the door to all the rooms that are still not cleaned up. For the kitchen, put the unclean dishes in the sink or the dishwasher and wipe the counter off for any crumbs or peelings. But, while doing so, don’t forget to give a quick mop to the kitchen floor.

It is always handy to have a few more pair of hands working with you at the same time. See if you can get your children or spouse to help you with the task and with the above steps followed your house will be spick n span in less than 10 minutes!
