Body acne is the same as face acne when it has become bothersome and embarrassing. Sometimes it can even be painful when it comes in contact with your clothing. Body acne is most common in the back and chest areas and is caused by excessive oil production from the sebaceous gland. When oil and bacteria build up, they can cause problem acne. You need an acne treatment and remedies to address this problem.
- Use a body wash containing salicylic acid. Salicylic is effective in clearing your pores and eliminating dead skin cells that can get trapped in the pores and aggravate your acne. Refrain from using soaps and body wash that are oil based, as these can make your skin more oily and acne-prone.
- Apply an acne topical cream. When choosing a cream to cure your acne, choose one with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These treatments are effective in combating acne problems since they can dry up acne fast and prevent future breakouts from occurring.
- Wait for the cream to dry before putting on clothes. These creams can bleach colored clothes, so wear light-colored clothes when you use acne medication on your body when possible.
- Shower regularly—especially after working out. Sweat can combine with dirt and oil, worsening acne. It is important to keep your body clean at all times.
- Do not pop the pimple. Popping the pimple may further spread the bacteria to other unaffected skin areas, causing inflammation that makes the pimple appear bigger and redder. If you pop the pimple, wash it with a gentle cleanser, rinse with water and pat dry.
- Do not use heavy lotions and creams. These contain ingredients that can clog your pores. Do not use lotions containing silicone, glitter and other products that are comedogenic like lanolin, myristate and D&C pigments.
- Use blue light. You can purchase a blue light to treat acne problems. If you choose to buy one to treat your body acne, purchase one you do not have to hold and that is large enough to cover your back area. Blue light kills bacteria and decreases the production of sebum and oil.
- Wear light fabrics. Synthetic and heavy materials can aggravate body acne. Athletic gear, tight clothes and straps can cause friction that irritates and worsens acne.
Tips and Warning
- Use spray acne medications for areas you cannot easily reach.
- Pregnant women should not use salicylic.
- Shower immediately after perspiring from working out. Sweat can easily clog pores.
