How to Sleep Soundly at Night


Today people who live busy lives find it harder and harder to sleep soundly at night. This can be because stress occurring during the day might still linger at night. Sleep is important because that is when your body rejuvenates and repairs the damage incurred during the day. There are, however, things you can do in order to get a sound sleep at night.

  • Do not drink coffee or caffeinated beverages in the hours before you go to sleep. Caffeine in coffee other beverages will keep your system up all night.

  • Eat your dinner four hours before you sleep. This will allow your metabolism to digest the food. And when your metabolism is active, it keeps your whole system active. Four hours is just right to digest the food you ate for dinner.
  • Take a warm shower. Steam from the shower relaxes your nerves. You can also take a bubble bath and relax there for a few minutes. This will relax your mind and body and help you prepare for a sound sleep.
  • Play soothing music and light a lavender-scented candle. The music will take your mind away off all the stress about which you have been worrying. Lavendar has a component that when smelled relaxes the body.
  • Turn off the TV. Keeping a television open will trigger your mind to think. Your goal should be clearing out your mind.
  • Listen to jazz music. Jazz music will help relax your mood, thus allowing you to fall asleep faster.
  • Avoid indulging in a nightcap. Do not drink any alcohol before you go to sleep or within an hour of going to bed. Although it may seem to make you fall asleep faster, alcohol can affect the quality of your sleep.
  • Do not drink too much fluid. Drinking too much will give you a full bladder that might disrupt your sleep.
  • Sleep at a specific time. You need to set a regular sleeping time. This will help condition your mind and body to know that during this certain time you chose, you should be sleeping.
  • Adjust the room temperature. It is better for the body to sleep at a cooler room temperature. A hot temperature will irritate you, causing you to wake up occasionally during sleep.
  • Darken your room. The darker the room, the more it invites your mind and body to sleep. Since dark colors and shades are coordinated with night time, they will give your body a signal to sleep.
  • Make sure your bed is comfortable. Find a bed just right for you. It should not be too hard or soft. Being uncomfortable in your bed will cause you to twist and turn and awaken during sleep.
  • Think pleasant thoughts. You can count ships, count backwards or think happy thoughts to help drift you nearer to sleep.
