How to Remove Acrylic Nails

Acrylic nails are nice to look at.  They can be convenient in terms of keeping the hands looks well maintained for an extended period of time. However, acrylic nails stop water and other cleansing agents from reaching the fingertips and natural nail bed. The germs and bacteria become trapped between the acrylic and the natural nail bed surfaces. This can result in infection. Follow these steps to remove your acrylic nails.

Step 1

Find your workspace so that will accommodate you and all the supplies you need to remove your acrylic nails comfortably.  You will need several supplies. Two glass bowls, a bottle of 100% pure Acetone Polish Remover, a container of 100% pure petroleum jelly, a set of fingernail buffer fingernail clippers and some lotion.

Step 2

Place all your supplies on your workspace and sit down comfortably.

Step 3

Take the nail clippers and cut down your acrylic nails as close to your natural nail length as possible. This will make the dissolution process faster and easier.

Step 4

Pour the 100% Pure Acetone in the glass bowls. You will need one for each hand. The acetone will dissolve the acrylic and the substances that make the acrylic adhere it to your natural nail beds.

Step 5

Apply some 100% petroleum jelly to your nail cuticles. The 100% petroleum will lock in the natural moisture of your skim and prevent the acetone from dying and being adversely effected from sitting in the acetone solution.

Step 6

Place one hand in each glass bowl that contains the acetone solvent. Continue to soak your fingernails for up to 25 minutes.

Step 7

Remove your hands from the bowls that contain acetone. Take your nail clippers and GENTLY begin to separate the acrylic from your natural nail bed. You will find that the acrylic is melting. Remove as much of it as you can without there being any resistance. If you can’t fully peel the acrylic overlay off the first time simply place your fingertips back in to acetone to allow the acrylic to further dissolve.

Step 8

Remove any acrylic overlay that’s left. Wash your hands in warm soapy water to remove the acetone and petroleum jelly.

Step 9

After washing if there is any visible adhesive then use your nail buffer to gently buff it away. Your nail beds may be fragile so be sure to buff lightly.

Step 10

Apply lotion as needed. Massage the lotion well into the cuticle and nail bed for extra nutrients to the skin and nail bed. This will help balance out the moisture loss from the acetone use. This process is a painless and gentle way to remove acrylic nails.
