How to Make Focaccia Bread

Focaccia is a very popular flatbread. It’s growing it popularity and many grocery store chains are beginning to carry this hearty bread. You can make this bread in its basic variety, or can can add extra ingredients to boost the flavor. Some well liked additions are garlic and herbs, cheese and more. You don’t have to wait for your local grocery store chain to starring Focaccia Bread to enjoy it. Here is a quick and easy recipe to make Focaccia Bread from scratch. Everything tastes better homemade. Here is how you can make your very own Focaccia Bread.

Procedure:

Things You’ll Need:

  • Large bowl
  • 1 package of yeast
  • 1-1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 4 to 5 cups flour
  • Wooden spoon
  • Medium bowl
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Towel
  • Baking sheet
  • Garlic, chopped (optional)
  • Pizza cutter or knife

Step 1

In your large bowl combine 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 ½ cups of warm water and a package of yeast. Mix well with a fork.

Step 2

Now add 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Add the flour about a half a cup at a time. Beat the mixture with a wooden spoon. Slowly incorporate all of your flour. You should have added about 4-5 cups. Beat the flour in until it starts to stick together.

Step 3

Knead the bread dough until it is no longer sticky.

Step 4

Prepare a bowl for your bread to rise in. Do this by spraying a bowl with non stick cooking sray.Place the fresh Focaccia dough in the bowl. Now, cover your bowl of dough with a clean cloth. Place the Focaccia dough in a warm place for about 1 hour. Here is a tip. Preheat your over at 175 degrees. Turn your oven off and place the dough inside to rise.

Step 3

Take your Focaccia dough from the bowl. Puch the dough down. If the dough is sticky, just add a bit more flour.

Step 4

Spray your baking pan with non stick spray and put the dough on the sheet.

Step 5

Put a bit of olive oil on your hands to help you spread the bread dough. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Press your fingers into the dough to make dimples. Top with olive oil and salt.

Step 7

Add chopped garlic, or cheese at this stage. Place the Focaccia in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes. Remove when brown. Cut it a pizza or bread knife. Serve warm or room temperature.
