How to Make Egg in the Hole

Egg in the hole is a fun, quick and easy way to make a healthy, nutritious breakfast for kids or teens.

Egg in the hole is basically just toast and a fried egg with a little twist to add some interest.

Here are the tools and utensils you’ll need to make the perfect egg in the hole every time:

  • Non-stick skillet
  • Spatula for turning
  • Glass or cup to make the hole in your bread

And here are the ingredients you’ll need for your egg in the hole:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 slice of bread
  • Butter or margerine
  • Salt and pepper

Here’s how to make a perfect egg in the hole

Take your slice of bread and place it on a hard flat surface. Butter the slice of bread on both sides, then take your cup or glass and use it to punch out a round hole in the center of the slice of bread.


Heat up your pan on medium heat and put the bread in, then crack an egg into the hole in the center. Once the egg is about half way cooked, about 2 minutes, carefully slide your spatula all the way underneath the slice of bread and egg and flip it over. At this point you can add salt and pepper but those are optional.

After cooking the second side for about 2 to 2.5 minutes, slide it out of the pan and onto a plate. There you have it, a perfect egg in the hole!
