How to Get Ink Out of Clothes


Ink can be a very touch stain to remove from any fabric. Ink usually gets into clothes by accidently leaving a writing pen in the pocket of a garment and the pen gets washed and dried. The stain seems to set in and everyone who has had this happen to them is panicked. The think that the clothing is forever ruined. In some cases this may be right, but there is still hope of removing the stain completely. Here is how you can attempt to ruin set in ink stains from your garment. Read on for more information.

Instructions

Items Needed:

  • Paper Towels

  • Hairspray
  • Resolve
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • WD-40
  • Paper Towels

Step 1

As soon as you notice the ink stain in your clothes, you should try and treat the spot with hairspray. The sooner the better. This method works for the smaller stains and not the larger ones. Spray the area and sit it down for 2 minutes. Put the area of the garment into between two paper towels. Press the paper towel into the garment from the back. Allow the top paper towel to absorb the ink that is being released. Try not to rub the stain. This may damage the garment.

Step 2

Find some OxyClean. You can also use Shout. Pre treat the ink stained area. Then, wash the garment as you normally would. If the ink does not come out completely, do not put it in the dryer. Re launder and try to remove the stain again.

Step 3

ALCOHOL: This is the main ingredient in hairspray that helps dissolves ink. Apply the alcohol to the ink stain. Allow it to set in for a few more minutes. Wash as you would normally.

Step 4

WD-40:  This chemical is a very strong dissolvent. This should be your last resort. It should be used to help treat large areas. Spray the ink and allow the chemical to set in for 2 minutes. Rinse the WD out immediately. Wash the garment in the normal way.

Resolve Carpet Cleaner: You can also use this product to remove some ink stains. You can soak the garment a couple of hours. Rinse. Wash as you would normally.

Suggestions & Warnings

  • If the burst pen left ink inside the washer or dryer wipe out the two units. Use rubbing alcohol to accomplish the task.
  • Using the alcohol can potentially cause some damage to the clothing. Be careful not to rub the surface too hard.
  • Take every precaution with these chemicals. Do not let them come in contact with your skin too much. Do not ingest these chemicals. Clean up spills.
