Items You Will Need:

  • Green Beans
  • Pot or Pan with Top

  • A Steam Rack
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter or Margarine (optional)
  • Stove
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Colander

Step 1

Collect your fresh green beans. Take them out and out them in a large pot, colander, or bowl. Rinse the fresh vegetables under running cold water. This will eliminate any residue, dirt or anything else you don’t want to end up in the final product.

Step 2

Go through the green beans and snap off the end of every green bean. Depending on the length you can also break the green beans into sections to make them easy to eat. Throw away the ends of the green beans.

Step 3

Place a steam rack down in the pot or sauce pan. Make sure that it is level and secure. You don’t want the beans falling into the steaming water.

Step 4

Put some water in the bottom of the pan. Do not fill the pot with water above the level of your steam rack. too much water will have the beans boiling and not steaming. they can’t be covered.

Step 5

Steam the fresh green beans for a duration of approximately 10 minutes. Check to make sure the green beans are the desired tenderness that you want them to be. If they are not steam them for a few minutes longer. Do not overcook. It’s nice to still have a crunch after they are done.

Step 6

Transfer the fresh steamed green beans to a large serving bowl. Season the green beans with salt and pepper and margarine of you so desire. Serve the green beans as a side to any of your favorite meals.  Serve while hot. Enjoy.
