How to Make your Own Soap Spray with Pyrethrin


Pyrethrin is a mosquito repellent. It is a by product of the Pyrethrin Daisy. This flower has een dried and ground into powder to help with mosquitos for over a century. Pyrethrin is the chemical that is extracted from the flower. The chemical is used as an insecticide today. Man insects are effected by the chemical. Beetles, apihs, spider mites and more. However, this insecticidal chemical does not harm others like birds ot bees. They are lethal to fish and water insects. You can use these chemicals and apply them to your plants that are almost ready to be harvested. The light and heat of the sun destroys the chemical. Here is how you can make your own pyrethrin insecticidal soap spray. It’s fast and easy.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dried pyrethrum daisies
  • Mortar and pestle or electric coffee grinder
  • Glass jar
  • Liquid soap
  • Water
  • Spray bottle
  • Making Pyrethrin Spray from Scratch

Step 1

You’ll need to gather some Pyrethrin Daisies in order to make your spray. Pick these flowers when they are in full bloom. You need to both store and dry your Pyrethrin Daisies. You can store the flowers by hanging them. The evironment needs to be cool, dark and dry. They need to dry for about three days or more. Make sure your flowers are dried completely befor moving on to the next step.

Step 2

After the flowers are dried, they will feel like paper to the touch. Now you can take your flowers down and prepare to grind the Pyrethrin into a powder.

Step 3

Use a mortar and pestle to grind the flowers into a dust. You can also use an electric coffe grinder. They work as well.

Step 4

Transfer your freshly ground Pyrethrin powder into a glass jar carefully.

Step 5

Now place 1 TSP of liquid soap into the jar with the newly made Pyrethrin powder.

Step 6

We need to add some liquid to make out spray. Now, add two cups of room temperature water to the Pyrethrin powder.

Step 7

You need to protect your Pyrethrin soap spray mixture. Secure the soapy mixture in the jar with a lid. Now gently shake the solution to combine all the ingredients. The lid should remain on the jar when not in use. Do not leave your jar open. It will decrease the effect of the contents.

Step 8

After you have mixed the contents of you bottle well, it is not ready to be used to help you rid yourself of insects and pests. Spray the underside leaves of the plants you need to protect from bugs and incsect with your Pyrethrin spray.
