How to Teach Basic Music Skills to your Children

Some people think that teaching music to children who have not got any prior knowledge about the art is useless. But who will provide them with that basic knowledge? You can easily teach music to children very effectively in the following ways:

  • You should introduce the children to the notes and tones. Your children will surely not be able to read those but you should get started with simple sounds that resemble notes. Make the highest and the lowest level of the tone. Let your children follow you. Trace a wave on the paper and then make the sound like that. Trace another wave on the paper and make a sound like that. With this you will imprint the signs of voices of particular notes.
  • You should make the range of the child wide enough so that he may not face any problem when he may become a professional. Let him listen to the songs. Also let him sing songs. This will help the child in a fabulous manner.

  • You should teach the children that what difference is present in high and low pitched voices and dull and sharp voices. You should also be able to tell them about soft and hard sounds.
  • You should give your child the ear training. It is very important for you to ask the child to sing when he is performing normal routine activities. This is a part of ear training. You may also make the child listen to the short melodies that appeal you.
  • You should think that what types of sounds are liked by your child. For instance, if your child likes the piano tunes, you may train the child, using a piano. You may start with the basics and get help from piano tuning services to tune your piano. This is of much importance in the learning process of the child. You should tell a story to the children and then ask them to mimic the sounds using a piano or the instrument they like the most. By this they may learn fast.
  • Make your children familiar to different musical instruments like the piano, drums, guitar, etc. Provide them with the best piano, drum, and guitar lessons. Wind instruments should be known by the children. Make them use these properly. This will increase their knowledge about music and they will be able to learn with interest. The children should be able to blow simple sounds. This will lead to the accomplishment of the task of teaching the children with basics.
