How to Grow Zinnias


Everyone loves to grow flowering plants in their home garden as they will bring you blossoms all the year. It is also very beautiful to have them in home which gives us wonderful flowers. Zinnias are one such kind of beautiful flowers in the world. They are having their flowers in many different shapes, colors and sizes. They grow abundantly from their seeds quickly. So that they can be used in many floral arrangements and they are also grown abundantly in many home gardens. They are giving warm welcome to their visitors ever. They actually originate in Central America. Hence they need a lot of sunlight and space. They also need well drained dirt for their growth.

The following tips help you in plant them effectively. First loosen the earth. To allow more water to enter soil, remove quantity of sand accumulated in a single place and also avoid dense soil bed. You can not grow them in small pots and hence buy large containers to grow them.

  • Zinnias can grow only in warm places. Hence don’t plant them during winter season because they have some trouble to flourish in cold weather. They grow well only in the warm temperature. They can grow faster during hot summer days and they will take six to eight week time to blossom from their period of sown. First get the seeds from the packets in to your hand and dig them in ground like a diamond arrangement. Each and every seed needs at least 30 cm gap and also put some soil over those to cover and protect them from sunlight.
  • You need to put manure frequently and it should be applied during the summer and spring seasons. They need more manure if their leaves look pale and also their growth seems very slow.
  • Then pour water to them daily and the amount of water basically depends on the weather conditions. If it shines bright, then they need more water to grow. In order to avoid fungal growth doesn’t use more water always because more water leads to much moisture. It is better to water them once in a week. If your soil is more parch then you can water them twice or thrice in a week.
  • Fungal infestations and powdery mildew are main enemies of zinnias. You must provide suffice air flow and space to avoid them to affect the plants. Usually try to water plants during daytime itself rather than night time. It will help you to avoid creating moisture environment for the plants.
  • Once you find mildew on plants, first clip off the plant parts which are affected. It will helpful to avoid spreading the disease to other plants and prevent them from contamination. You can use mildew resistant from plant stores and fungicides to safeguard your zinnias.
