How to Use a Pressure Cooker


At the invention of the pressure cookers, most thought that they are very dangerous. But now they have become one of the important components of the kitchen. Though they have become very popular and familiar, there are certain things which you need to know, before you are using it for the first time. First take the food which is to be cooker and place it in the pressure cooker. Always place the food items inside the pressure cookers with some amount of water. It is this water, which turns into steam and cooks the food. After placing the food along with water, close the lid tightly. There should be no leak, as the process depends on the pressure inside.After making it ready, put it on a heat source.

It may be a stove and any other type of heat supply. When the cooker is heated, the pressure inside the cooker would rise. In this process, the water would be converted into steam and cook the food inside. When the pressure attains the designed level, the whistle would blow and some amount of pressure would be let out. The high pressure inside the cooker would help in cooking the food quickly.

Then take pressure cooker from the heat source and place it down. This is the most important part; don’t ever open the lid immediately. Wait for the entire pressure to dissipate. If you open it immediately, you are blowing a bomb yourself. Use the pressure regulators to check the amount of pressure released, after gaining experience you would not require it. Once these things are well checked and noted, open the lid carefully.

There are some benefits on using the pressure cooker. The food is cooked much faster. The energy used is less when compared to that of boiling. The microorganisms can be easily eliminated. As we use only little water, the vitamins and other minerals are not lost. There is no oxidation problems, hence of the colors of the vegetables are not lost.

The cooking process will continue, even after turning off the source. This is done with the help of the pressure inside this. Hence the source can be preserved considerably.

If you are choosing meat, then it id better to cook it with the pressure cooker. The hard meat can be cooked in minutes by the pressure cooker. If you boil it will take a long time.

As this device would possess huge pressure inside, it is better to handle it carefully. Even though you are sure of no pressure inside, open it with your face away from the lid.
