How to Serve Wine

Wine! A romantic drink with your loved one’s! Hence you must know how to serve it. Serving wine is not just about opening the bottle and pouring in a glass and having it. It’s just an art. Here is the step by step procedure of serving wine.

Procedure:

a.            Choosing and storing Wine: Choose wine according to the occasion and go for a quality wine bottle. Wine bottles should be stored on their side so that the wine keeps the cork moist and air tight. Make sure it is stored in a cool place which is away from sunlight

b.            Serving Temperature: It is the most important aspect of wine serving which can greatly affect the taste and the aroma of the wine. A conventional way of serving various types of wine is that red wine should be served at room temperature whereas white wine should be served chilled. If served at around 8-10 °C they will be so much better. You can have a refrigerator to set the temperature around. Note that the temperature of a wine bottle will get reduced by 2 °C for every ten minutes while in refrigerator and warm at the same rate when taken out from it, if it’s of good quality.

c.             Opening the bottle: Use sharp knife or special foil cutter to remove the metal foil. Open the bottle at an angle away from you. Twist the bottle from the base and remove the restraining wire. At the instance of cork ejects, make perfect angle to release the gas softly.

d.            Choosing the right glass: The simpler and plainer will be better. A long stem allows for ease of swirling and the glass shape will trap and deliver the aromas. You can avoid temperature change by holding the glass by its stem. Traditional way of serving is of smaller glass for red wine and larger for white wine.

e.            Pouring the wine: While pouring the wine to glass, never fill it. Just go to the half way. This is because of the reason that will allow the wine to breathe in the glass and for the recipient to swirl the wine and enjoy the aromas. Serve while wine before red as young and keep the good wine until last.

f.             Tasting wine: Mostly it doesn’t need to be a part of serving. Inspect the cork before tasting to make sure of the condition of it.

Yes, serving the wine is an art and one’s personality can be judged. So, never mind. Just follow these steps and have a romantic occasion.
