How to Install Xoops through Cpanel


XOOPS is one of the most popular open source content management system. XOOPS is based on the PHP platform. XOOPS has many features. Users can customize the template of their XOOPS site through a modular architecture. It is licensed under the Gnu General Public License (GPL). It is free and available for the public to use, modify and distribute.

XOOPS stands for eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System. Before it becomes a Web Application Platform, it was a portal system. XOOPS serves as a web framework for all types of websites including small and giant sites. XOOPS can be used to make a personal blog. However, it can be extended to manage large sites through integrating appropriate modules that can be downloaded freely on the internet. Many tutorial books have been written on the subject of XOOPS to help people to learn how to use it. These books are available in many languages and can be purchased from a bookstore or online shop such as Amazon.com.

If you want to install Xoops through cPanel, follow the instructions below:

Procedure:

  • On the homepage of your cPanel, click on the Fantastico icon. This will take you to the home page of Fantastico.

  • Click on Xoops in the Content Management section on the left Navigation bar.

  • Click on New Installation.

  • Select the domain on which you want to install Xoops from the Install on domain drop down menu.
  • If you want to install Xoops in the root directory of the domain, leave the install in directory text box empty. If you want to install Xoops in a directory, enter the directory name. This directory should not be existed. It will be automatically created.

  • Enter a username in the Administrator-username text box. You need this to enter the Xoops administration area.

  • Enter a password in the Password text box. You need this to enter the Xoops administration area.

  • Enter the name of your website in Site name text box.

  • Enter a slogan for your website in the Your Site’s slogan text box.

  • Enter your email address in the Admin e-mail text box.

  • When you are done, click the Install Xoops button.

  • Click the Finish Installation button.

  • The XOPPS is now successfully installed.

If you have followed the instructions above, you will be able to install XOOPS on your website through Fantastico in Cpanel.
