How to Cook Hamburgers on the Stove

Eating Hamburgers is a favourite past time for most of us. It is a non-issue as to whether they are made at home or we are having them in a restaurant. The art of making Hamburgers has been mastered over the years and they can be made in an oven covered with an aluminium foil or we may use a rotisserie. Burgers made on the stove taste the best.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • beef (ground)
  • spatula
  • skillet

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take the burger patties and place them on the kitchen counter or on the table.
  2. Pat them to shape them. The shape can be made as per your choice, keeping them big, small, thick or thin. If you keep them too big, you may find that the meat burger has shrunk after heating and you have more patty than meat.
  3. Place the skillet on medium high heat and put the burgers in it. Let them cook in their grease.
  4. Cover the skillet with a lid. This retains the heat as also reduces the grease splatters on the stove. This cuts your cleaning too.
  5. After about eight minutes of cooking on one side, flip them to cook on the other side. Let them cook for the same time as before. However make sure that the heat is not getting to be too strong otherwise the burgers may get burnt.
  6. There is a simple way to check if the burgers are done. Use the spatula to press its corner into the middle of the burger, breaking the upper crust.
  7. Now flatten the spatula on the burger and press a little. If you notice clear juices coming out from the top, the burger is good enough to eat.
  8. Cook for some time more in case on pressing, the juices are not clear.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • Keep the skillet handle away from the front of the stove to prevent children accidentally tilting it. Use a potholder when removing the skillet lid.
  • Burger grease when hot may cause burns.
  • You may use ground form of beef, chuck, turkey or round.
  • To make burgers healthier, you may add water while they are cooking to get some grease out.
  • For taste, add on onions, spices, Parmesan cheese and peppers to the burger mixture before shaping patties.
