How to Clean and Care for a Louis Vuitton Bag

Louis Vuitton purses have existed for more than 150 years. These couture items remain particularly popular with fashionistas. Authentic Louis Vuitton handbags don’t come cheap because of their very high quality. If you want to enjoy your Louis Vuitton for as long as possible, you need to know how to take proper care of it.

  • Louis Vuitton bags don’t come in waterproof varieties. You should never put your bag in water to wash it. The most popular Louis Vuitton bags remain the Monogram and Damier Collections. The company constructs these out of coated canvas trimmed with leather. Though the fabric has some resistance to water, clean it with a slightly wet cloth only and just a little bit of soap. Use cloths that feel soft and will not scratch the canvas.

  • Louis Vuitton uses high-quality leather so the bags will look beautiful for years if you know how to take care of it. If you own a new Louis Vuitton bag, the color of the leather will appear light beige and will turn a darker honey color over time. The color turns because of exposure to air, dust, skin oils and so on. You cannot stop the leather from changing color over time, but you can avoid leaving unaesthetic marks on the bag. For example, wash your hands after applying cosmetics. You might still have foundation, mascara or eye shadow marks on your fingers, and those will leave spots that prove difficult to take out. The leather also doesn’t respond well to water, so avoid carrying your bag in the rain. If you want to clean the leather from time to time, using baby wipes is a good idea. They won’t harm the leather but instead give it an even darker color over time. Don’t use chemicals on the leather, a very sensitive fabric that chemicals can ruin. The bags from the Damier Collection come from a more lasting leather that will not change color significantly over time.
  • Use leather lotion from time to time. If you leave the bag in your closet for a long time, the leather will dry out and crack. Apply leather lotion evenly on the leather and rub it softly for a while. The lotion should absorb into the leather and have the same soothing effect that a body lotion has on your skin.
  • Don’t exercise such caution so as not to ruin your bag that you don’t enjoy it. Take good care of your Louis Vuitton purse, but keep in mind that Louis Vuitton makes high-quality products. You will own a beautiful bag for years if you exercise some minor precautions and measures on your end
